Review || Inheritance by Gail Z. Martin (Deadly Curiosities #4)

Can Cassidy and her friends find the demon box, stop the killer ghosts, and break the Pendlewood curse before Beckford’s murderous cousins and the vengeful demon destroy them all?
Book four in the Deadly Curiosities series. Cassidy Kincaide runs Trifles & Folly in modern-day Charleston, an antiques and curio shop with a dangerous secret. Cassidy can read the history of objects by touching them, and she teams up with friends and allies who use magic and paranormal abilities to get rid of cursed objects and keep Charleston and the world safe from supernatural threats.
Caribbean ghosts terrorize Charleston and start racking up a body count. Then Beckford Pendlewood, the heir to a powerful family of dark warlocks, shows up raving about a bound demon locked in a lost box and begs sanctuary. Can Cassidy and her friends find the demon box, stop the killer ghosts, and break the Pendlewood curse before Beckford’s murderous cousins and the vengeful demon destroy them all?

Inheritance is book number four in the Deadly Curiosities world. If you remember, I reviewed a book from another of her series, Spells, Salt, & Steel, earlier this year. What I'm finding I love about her books is that it's so easy to get lost in the world that she builds. The best urban fantasies are the ones that layer the fantastical right on top of the reasonable and that what Gail Z. Martin does time and time again!

Inheritance finds us right back in Charleston at Trifles & Folly, an antique and curio shop that is essentially a front for Cassidy and her friends to find and remove nasty supernatural objects from the hands of the public. This time, it's not just one object but many. There's always a large cast of players in the Trifle & Folly world and sometimes it does get a bit confusing. However, all the characters are well written and the relationships are uncomplicated. I think what I find most appealing is her ability to write relationships organically.

I'm always excited to be reading another book in this world because there are always new spooks to be seen and plenty of paranormal entities that I'd never heard of before. Like La Diablesse, a temptress with a coven hoof where one of her feet should be, or douen, faceless children with backwards pointing feet. I don't know about you, but an encounter with either of these would scare me witless! I always feel like I'm learning so much new folklore while reading one of her books and I love that! Who says fiction can't be educational!

If you like fun urban fantasy reads that don't skimp on the paranormal, you need to do yourself a favor and pick up the Deadly Curiosities series!
