The Versatile Blogger Award

I was nominated for The Versatile Blogger Award by Paramita_Reads
Thank you!
Be sure to check out the blog too!

I'm really on the fence about awards, though I know a lot of bloggers participate. I also see a lot whose blog states Award Free Zone! Personally, I don't mind the questions and think they are kind of fun, but I don't want anyone to feel obligated.

That being said, dun dun duh...

The Rules:

  • Once you are nominated by a fellow blogger, you are a recipient of the award.
  • Thank the person who nominated you and link their blog back in your post.
  • Find fifteen fellow bloggers and nominate them for The Versatile Blogger Award.
  • Make a post revealing seven unknown facts about you.
  • Include the above-mentioned rules in your award post.
Rules, smules. We don't need no stinkin' rules. (Okay, maybe IRL, we need a lot of rules, but this is my blog and NO RULES. *I may have just said that in my head like Edna Mode.* I don't want to tag anyone that rolls their eyes the first second they see the tag, so I'm only asking for willing sacrifices, er, victims, er, participants. We'll get to that more in a minute.

Seven Unknown Facts About Me

I hate cave crickets.
I refuse to post a picture because they totally squik me out, so you go Google. I'll wait.
ShuddersI HATE these things. They jump AT you and the only way to kill them is to sneak attack from a distance. Yes, readers, I will even sacrifice a hardback book if it means the death of one of these in the house.

I once caught a feral cat in midair with a fishing net.
I used to be a veterinary assistant and we worked with a feral cat rescue to TNR. (Trap, neuter, and return) I was in a very tiny isolation room when the cat got loose and started bouncing off every possible surface like a freakin pinball machine. We had this long poled fishing net. I swiped at the exact moment as the cat jumped and got it in mid-air. I honestly don't know how I did it. Poor cat. Poor me, but hey, at least I wasn't the one getting my nu-nu's removed.

I got married on a cruise ship.
I highly recommend it. Literally, I got a checklist to plan my wedding. Flower color? Check. Cake flavor? Check. My wedding license has coordinates (off the western side of Cuba in case you were wondering). The only thing that sucked was I had to wait forever for the marriage license afterward. Even though we didn't go anywhere near it, the ship was registered in Bermuda, so I had to wait for them to process the license.

I have a duplexed kidney.
Typically, each kidney has one ureter that runs from the kidney to the bladder. One of my kidneys has two. It occurs in 0.8% of the population. It apparently runs in families, though I have no idea who in our family has/had it. It's one of those weird bodies freaky facts to share during cocktail hour.

I love baking but not so much cooking.
Baking is so much fun. My favorite thing to make is sugar cookies. I make them and decorate them with the hard icing and everything. I probably owe that to my mom. As a kid, we made sugar cookies from scratch, rolled them, cut them out and decorated them. I still feel like I need to make cookies for Christmas every year

I have a pet rat.
I actually had two, but I lost one of the guys last month. Rats are just the sweetest. My guy, Gobo, loves snuggling and will groom me. He's 3 years old now. Unfortunately, that's about the average for rats; 2-3 years. Rats are incredibly smart. They are like little dogs. They know their name and you can actually teach them tricks. I had hamsters growing up and they were nowhere near as personable as my rats.

I'm a big animal rescue advocate.
Okay, this one you may have figured out. Our house is a zoo. We have 5 cats, a pitty, and of course, Gobo the rat. Out of the five cats, two were foster failures (Edgar and Thatcher) and one (Rygel) was a straight adoption. Sallie, our pitty, was also a foster failure. Then my old men (Booger is 20 and Ernie is 18) were strays that were brought into the fold years ago.
If you can't adopt, foster. If you can't foster, donate. If you can't donate, volunteer.

Well, there ya go. Seven unknown facts about me. I hope they were interesting!
Five months in and 100 posts down.
